Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) is a dynamic initiative by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that brings together Governments, International organizations and Industry to facilitate adoption of biofuels and bringing together the biggest consumers and producers of biofuels to drive biofuels development and deployment. The initiative aims to position biofuels as a key to energy transition and contribute to jobs and economic growth.
The Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) aims to boost sustainable biofuels globally. It focuses on capacity-building throughout the value chain to enhance efficiency and innovation. GBA’s initiative aligns with the goal of increasing renewable energy in transport from 3% to 27% by 2050. GBA’s strategy includes a virtual marketplace to connect supply and demand in the growing biofuel industry. This marketplace plays a key role in harmonizing global biofuel
efforts as demand is expected to rise significantly by 2028.

This summit aims to highlight a crucial part of India’s path towards achieving its decarbonization goals and promoting sustainable energy practices. As we advance towards a greener future, exploring avenues that align with our environmental goals and enhance our energy independence is essential. Encouraging bioenergy production, particularly through the use of non-edible corn for ethanol, offers a significant opportunity.
It is heartening to see the notable progress in ethanol production, demonstrated by reaching an 11.60% blending rate as of February 2023. However, to achieve our ambitious target of 20% blending by 2025, strategic interventions are necessary. This requires the swift development of policies and incentives conducive
to ethanol production from various raw materials.
Non-edible corn stands out as an especially promising source for bioethanol production due to its abundance and suitability. Introducing a policy for duty-free import of non-edible corn for five years could boost ethanol production capacity and encourage domestic corn cultivation, reducing future import dependence.
